"Wellness House gave me my life back. It gave me hope."
- Barbara Gibson, Wellness House participant, fallopian tube cancer survivor
One family challenging cancer.
For Barbara Gibson, helping others find what they’re looking for is a
way of life. When this wife, mother, and librarian was diagnosed with
cancer, however, she found the help she needed at Wellness House.
“I finally got the courage to call,” says Barbara. “I was amazed at how
many programs they offered that interested me.”
After one class, Barbara knew Wellness House was the place for her. She
attended every program she could and even began to volunteer in the
library. Once her father, Richard, who was also battling cancer, saw how
much Wellness House had improved Barbara’s life, he decided to go with
her.
“Since she started going [to Wellness House] she’s started feeling
better physically and mentally,” Richard says. “I wanted what she had.”
A year later, Barbara and her father are in remission, but they still make time for a weekly ‘emotional recharge’ with their friends at Wellness House. Barbara’s mother, as Richard’s caregiver, has even gotten involved in some exercise and support programs, as has Barbara's husband.
“Wellness House has given my whole family something to look forward to,”
said Barbara, “Life beyond cancer, one day at a time.”
